The devices considered in order to provide Telematics and Remote diagnostics services depend on the type of vehicle. Specifically, for trailers and semi-trailers, the T-DOT device must be installed, and for the rest of motor vehicles (trucks, vans, buses, agricultural equipment or OHW equipment) the device that must be installed is the T-VOD. In case the Diagnostics services are not needed, a T-VOD Lite can be installed.
The acronym FMS stands for "Fleet Management System". It is a standard interface to access data of commercial vehicles (truck and bus). In 2002, six large European manufacturers decided to develop this standard: DAF, Daimler AG, IVECO, MAN, VOLVO/RENAULT and SCANIA. The FMS standard gathers a series of data transmitted through the J1939 protocol, combining the access to tachograph data among others, and it is a universal information and communication source.
In its basic version, Jaltest Telematics offers a series of data obtained from the FMS bus (or equivalent). These data are the source of data for the following reports: idle time, speed report, RPM, consumption, brake use, use of inertia, distance traveled, and some sections of the efficient driving calculation.
Any vehicle equipped with FMS has a specific connector established by the FMS standard. Depending on the brand and model, its location will be different. Our technical department will confirm if your vehicle is equipped with it or not. In case your vehicle does not have FMS, we will suggest an alternative to have access to the maximum amount of information by connecting through an equivalent CAN bus.
Remote diagnostics enables the connection with all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) present in the vehicle that have coverage in Jaltest. This connection allows the reading of fault codes, classifying them as “active” or “inactive”. For each fault code, the additional information related to the fault codes registered by the ECUs at the moment of its occurrence is also gathered. This information is very useful to analyze the conditions under which the fault code occurred.
In addition, each control unit has a set of data that identifies it and a group of measurements that make it possible to know and evaluate the correct operation of the control unit and, therefore, the correct operation of the vehicle. Some examples of these measurements are: brake pad wear level, percentage of dirt in the fuel filter, date of the next oil maintenance service depending on the usage conditions, fuel pump pressure, etc.
The access to this information opens the door for an improvement that had not been contemplated before in the context of conventional telematics solutions, promoting the desired concept of predictive maintenance and alarms based on the real vehicle operating status.
Remote diagnostics consists in connections to the vehicle at certain times. These can be planned, or they can take place whenever the user decides to perform them. Programmed diagnostics can be planned whenever the user wants. This way, it is possible to know the status of the vehicle at any time, and alarms can be generated whenever the vehicle has errors or any measurement of the equipped systems is out of the range specified by the user.
A digital tachograph is a control device whose ultimate purpose is the same as the purpose of the analog tachograph. The difference is that it registers information related to the activity of the vehicle and its drivers digitally in an internal memory of the tachograph and of the driver card. This way, the traditional chart discs are replaced by smart driver cards.
Which conditions must be met in order to perform the remote download of the tachographs and driver cards?
The remote tachograph download is conditioned by the tachograph version installed in the vehicle. In general, the minimum compatible versions based on the tachograph brand are:
The mobile application has the same functionalities as the web application, but with the advantages of working from an application in the phone.
The mobile application is available both for Android and iOS devices.
